As the blistering San Antonio summer begins to rear its ugly head again, phones are ringing off the hook for AC repair and our spring service calls. Those units that were humming along last year during the blazing heat have been neglected for the duration of an especially cold winter. As a result, our AC repair technicians are as busy as ever servicing the many Air conditioner repair problems all over the city. But, with so many homeowners needing repairs, some are forgetting to ask the right question: what are some ways to care and maintain my air conditioning unit so it doesn’t need any major AC repairs?

Should your outside AC condenser coils be clean?

We recently wrote about the role that cleaning and maintaining your units’ filters in staving off costly AC repairs, and this month we’re helping even more homeowners out by writing about the importance of your air conditioner’s coils. There are different types of coils in most AC units; these are the evaporator coils and the condenser coils. Condenser coils are located outside of your home in your condenser unit and are chiefly responsible for expelling the heat from your home and flushing heated refrigerant from your home. Over time, these coils can be covered with dirt, which makes it harder to transfer the heat from inside your home to the outside. This can inevitably lead to a more inefficient unit and, of course, emergency AC repairs. Just as condenser coils release captured heat outside, evaporator coils are responsible for capturing the heat and thus require immediate repairs when they become dirty or non-functioning.

Ask your AC technician if your condenser coils need to be cleaned?

To ensure these parts don’t get too dirty and demand AC repair, homeowners must contact their professional, licensed HVAC company. The technician will come to your home, inspect your unit, and perform the maintenance needed should any be required. It is essential that you trust this task to only licensed professionals whose work you trust. So-called “discount” AC repair technicians will often cut corners and leave homeowners in a bind when it comes time to use their units heavily. Don’t be fooled by a cheap price; that price is often concealing shoddy work or below standard parts. Sure, you may save a few dollars by handing work to the discount AC repair workers, but your costs will far outweigh any small amount you saved once your air conditioner is malfunctioning and you need repairs.

Common AC Repair Problems: Regular AC System Service

In this article we will quickly discuss why a common AC repair problem such as no system service in San Antonio, TX is such a big issue. Bottom line; just like your car or home regular service helps fix problems before they become big and catches developing problems early.

One of the pieces of advice we give out most often when we perform service calls is how to care for and maintain an air conditioner so as to avoid AC repair. The truth is, a small amount of maintenance can go very far in forestalling AC repair. Not many homeowners know this or, if they do, either neglect to care for their air conditioner or forget. As we will explain, caring for your air conditioner is a great investment, as it often involves little work and can reward you with a more efficient unit and, more importantly, a more comfortable home. AC repair can not only be expensive, but needing AC repair is also indicative of an inefficient or inoperable unit. The great thing about AC repair is that it often can be just as simple as replacing air filters or continually checking your unit for dirt or grime. These are small measures that can help eliminate the need for emergency AC repair.

Undoubtedly, the most important maintenance task that can help you stave off emergency AC repair and ensure the efficiency of your unit is routinely cleaning or replacing air filters. Clogged or dirty air filters can block efficient airflow and reduce a system’s operability significantly. With dirty or clogged air filters, air that bypasses the air filters can carry grime and dirt directly into other parts of the air conditioner and cause further problems. This is why, when it comes to eliminating the need for repeated AC repair, maintaining the air filters is one of the most important aspects.

This importance is no different for central air conditioners, which normally have their air filters located somewhere along the return duct’s length. Other common air filter locations are in walls or ceilings. What never changes is that cleaning or replacing air filters is integral in stopping the kind of AC repair that will not only give you worry, but also make your home uncomfortable. AC repair is, of course, necessary at times and such complicated machines can break even with continued maintenance. But, if you frequently need emergency AC repair or having AC repair related problems, you should ask yourself whether or not you’re doing the most you can for your air conditioner’s continued health. Most homeowners don’t think about their air conditioners until they need AC repair, but this wastes time, money, and makes your home uncomfortable. Common AC Problems: Low or No Refrigerant

When it comes to air conditioning repair, preventative maintenance is one of the most important steps. While there are, of course, remedies that savvy homeowners can undertake when it comes to air conditioning repair, those remedies can only go so far. Many homeowners, when undertaking “do-it-yourself” air conditioning repair can only partly fix problems or, at worst, exacerbates existing problems so that they become major incidents that necessitate service calls from experienced air conditioning repair technicians.

One of the most common air conditioning problems is lack of refrigerant. This problem occurs most often when units are installed insufficiently or not serviced properly. This kind of problem makes air conditioning repair necessary because  is obviously essential to the air conditioning process and can leak from a unit for several different reasons. One reason for a lack of refrigerant that can necessitate air conditioning repair is the unit being undercharged at installation. Another reason for lack of refrigerant, and perhaps the most common, is a leak in the unit. These problems can lead to needing air conditioning repair, and should be evaluated immediately by an experienced and professional air conditioning repair specialist.

There are also many other causes of needing air conditioning repair, with another common one being lack of maintenance. This occurs when homeowners—likely worrying more about their heating units in the winter months—neglect to schedule regular maintenance with their air conditioning repair specialists. This kind of neglect can cause normally fixable problems—such as dirty filters or air conditioning coils—to escalate into serious concerns that necessitate emergency air conditioning repair. Another common problem with air conditioners is known as electronic control failure. This mainly occurs when an air conditioning unit’s compressor wears out; this is most common with units that are over-sized. Over time, the electrical connections within a unit can wear; this will be evidenced by erratic cycling in the unit. Homeowners with this problem will notice their units turning on and off at random times.

All of these problems require the attention of a trusted and professional air conditioning repair technician. While many homeowners armed with the internet and the can-do attitude attempt to fix the more common problems themselves or with cut-rate technicians, the knowledgeable homeowner understands that any savings they may find by either doing it themselves or using discount service providers will quickly be overtaken by the spiking costs of continuing to maintain their units.

Avoid Costly AC Repairs With Regular Maintenance Plans

Now that the worst of the winter has seemingly come and gone, South Texas is heating up again; this means air conditioning units are switching on and thermostats are quickly rising. However, just as we’ve discussed before with heating units, some South Texas homeowners are switching on their air conditioning units only to find themselves in need of AC repair in a hurry. Though today’s homeowner is very knowledgeable and has a variety of resources at their fingertips, not all homeowners understand some of the very basic maintenance procedures that can forestall needing emergency AC repair. So, today we’ll talk about some of the most common air conditioner malfunctions leading to eventual AC repair.

One of the most common air conditioner problems stems from improper operation. Many times, homeowners needing AC repair could have avoided their predicament by simply ensuring their doors and windows were closed while their unit was operating. A unit operating while windows or outside doors are open naturally has to work harder than an isolated unit conditioning air inside of a closed home. Such work can lead to many different problems with a given unit. Those problems can be various, but they all invariably lead to AC repair.

Another common problem leading to AC repair is harder to remedy even for the most savvy homeowners. This AC repair problem stems from faulty installation or inadequate service procedures. Of course, this AC repair problem can manifest without the homeowner’s knowledge. This is why it is always best to trust your home AC repair and maintenance to trusted, experienced professionals. Homeowners seeking to save a few dollars by having their units installed and serviced by cut rate providers oftentimes end up paying more through repeated AC repair and even new units altogether. One of the most common technical problems homeowners face that leads to eventual AC repair is leaking refrigerant. Refrigerant is key to any AC unit, and its absence is a sure sign of needed AC repair. The lack of refrigerant is often symptomatic of a leak or faulty installation. Your licensed, experienced AC repair technician can diagnose the problem and help you along in fixing it. The bottom line is, there is no substitute for a highly trained, professional and experienced AC repair firm. So, if you have been needing AC repair, can’t get your unit to function, or would like to know more, call today.

Flow Hood TestLet’s put ourselves in this home owner’s shoes.

My house was not comfortable and I didn’t understand why. My current AC repair technician couldn’t figure out what the problem with my air conditioner is after several very expensive service calls. I begin asking around about more reputable San Antonio air conditioning repair companies. My friend referred me to their ac repair company called TASCO.

One of their technicians came out the same day I called to see what the problems were with my air conditioning system. The technician came in and discussed a list of questions called Comfort Concerns with me. The comfort concerns list asked questions such as; “Are there any areas that get too warm or too cold?” “Does anyone in your family suffer from asthma or airborne allergens?” “Are you concerned about future energy costs?”

I mentioned that there were several rooms in my house that are hotter than the others and the first technician couldn’t figure out the problem. The TASCO technician asked to perform a test called the Flow Hood Test to see how well the air conditioning unit was working in my house.

I watched as the technician placed a funnel type structure called the flow hood over the supply register. The flow hood measures how much air is coming in through the supply air vent to see how much air was coming out. He repeated this process on every supply register in my house.

After testing each area we sat down and discussed the results. The technician explained to me that the duct work was under sized and it must be correctly sized installed so that the system will run efficiently and provide greater comfort.

The following day, two TASCO technicians arrived on time at my house ready to install new duct work that qualified for rebates. Within a day’s time, my system had new duct work and my house finally was comfortable and livable.

I now know why my friend referred me to TASCO. After this quick and efficient experience with TASCO I will continue to trust and call TASCO for my air conditioning repair needs.
